Philip previously ran the successful Woodhouse menswear stores while Brix played guitar in influential British rock band The Fall. Start’s personality, unique buying style and eclectic design have ensured its rise to become a landmark in the area - there are now three Start shops in one street, selling both women’s and men’s designer fashion.

    Classic jeans brand, Closed, run by Gordon Giers, Hans Redlefsen and Til Nadler became famous for their 'pedal pusher' and their stone wash technique in the 1970s and 1980s which put them on the map for their innovation and leading edge.
