The brand was first started in 1978 by Brian Smith an Australian surfer taking sheepskin boots to America. By 1998 the product line had expanded and the brand was re-positioned and is now known as a high-end footwear brand. Combining luxury, accessibility and comfort into UGG products has resulted in the UGG boot being a ‘must have’ item. In 2003, UGG was named Footwear News "Brand of the Year" and was responsible for the creation of an entirely new category of footwear.
