Artist Susanne Schmitt takes existing objects and alters them to create her pieces. But these alterations are often very subtle and are made through slight changes in details, but altered enough to make the viewer question their perception of the original. Her art is non-exclusive and not created to sit on some high alter of art appreciation, but rather to be used like the everyday objects that inspired them. Schmittâs pieces include jewellery and accessories, designed to be worn as well as admired.
Jo Jackson, Kate Harwood and Kristjana Williams graduated from Central St Martins brimming with creative energy only to become disillusioned by the lack of a platform to show off their talent. And so grew the concept of Beyond the Valley - a boutique-come-exhibition-space for emerging artists and designers. Based in London's Soho, Beyond the Valley opened in 2006. Stocking an innovative product range, the shop features collections including Yuko Yoshitake and Alejandra Quesada, lighting from Jake Phipps and edgy jewellery from Miss Bibi. Wallpaper, fine art, music and furniture have also now been introduced to the boutique, which was nominated as one of the UK's Coolbrands 2007/2008
