The holiday season wouldn't be complete without a healthy dose of nostalgia, so we asked six international fashion editors to share their personal stories of wrapping and unwrapping the perfect gift.
First up is Jessica Weiss -a favourite on the Berlin fashion scene and co-founder of Germany’s leading style blog Les Mads
, as well as Online Editor for the German edition of Andy Warhol’s legendary INTERVIEW
magazine. And just last month, Jessica launched Jour Nelles
– a self-proclaimed blogazine showcasing the latest fashion, beauty, interiors and shopping news. Thus, as a respected shopper in her own right, we tasked Jessica with sharing her experience of buying gifts for others to unwrap. Here’s her story…
'When it comes to gifts, my creativity is pretty limited – especially since my boyfriend believes that practical gifts are much better than romantic ones. So I always received something that I need, which actually is better than one might think! I adapted that logic from him, and always gave him presents that he really needed. Except for last Christmas…
I gave him an X-Box computer console (which I thought I would use myself for some dancing games) and he was extremely happy - unwrapping it like a small child with a magical glow in his eyes. Unfortunately, I soon realised how much the gift took away from our common time together, as from the beginning, he was sitting in front of it non-stop. But seeing him and all of his friends loving the gift, I realised it was the best one I could have given after all – although it has no personal or romantic sentiments.
The best gift I could give to someone to unwrap this year would be for my sister. She’s just finished her Masters in Media and has worked a lot over the last few years. As a student you tend to have a small budget, but she still needs a great handbag! I do believe that classic designer handbags can last a lifetime, and this Chloé model is perfect.'
