Exclusive: Club Monaco Made In The USA

‘People who are confident and comfortable in their own skin. People who understand the product we’re offering and the intrinsic value therein’ Aaron Levine, design VP of chic Toronto founded, New York based label Club Monaco is talking about the man he has in mind for the brand’s latest Made In The USA collection. A slightly preppier and all-American take on the label’s main line, Made In The USA strikes the difficult balance between smart and casual via some effortless separates. When we found out that farfetch favourite Anthem boutique in Shoreditch was the exclusive European stockist of the collection it piqued our interest even more. So we sat down with Aaron to find out what makes Made In The USA a menswear must-have…

Farfetch: Tell us a bit about Made In The USA…
Aaron Levine: It’s a project that came about purely from the love of making great product. We had the opportunity to work on special pieces using great factories and some of the world’s finest mills - these garments are handmade in traditional American factories known for their craftsmanship and skill in making specific menswear product.

What is the inspiration behind the line?
The Made in the USA collection is about supporting American craftsmanship and offering our customers an amazing product that we are proud of. We hold ourselves to high standard. If the product doesn’t raise the bar or reach our standard, it doesn’t make the cut.

What are the key pieces in the collection this season?
The collection is rooted in iconic items like suits, sport coats, top coats denim, ties and button-down shirts. The Made In The USA line is all about the core items in a man’s wardrobe. With this collection we wanted to create clothing that can stand the test of time. This is a project that affords us the chance to work with the finest materials - we like to work with noble goods that have integrity and constitution.

What's your own favourite piece in the collection?
The design process for the collection actually started when I found a great fabric for a camel hair topcoat. This was pinned to a board and once we set this tone, we started organically growing our design capsule around it. So I guess you could say it’s my favorite piece because it was the original inspiration.

Why pick Anthem a stockist for the collection?
While walking around the east end, I was lucky enough to have a friend introduce me to the shop during a trip to London. It’s a jewel. Anthem’s ethos is to source quality, crafted products from talented artisans and we greatly respect their passion and dedication which is apparent when you visit their store. The baseline in which we create this capsule mirrors the ethos of Anthem as a store.
