| What better way to shrug off a global economic downturn than to showcase dramatic, theatrical and downright decadent attire for winter – and that’s just what fashion’s brave did this season. Draping their models in velvet, brocade and silk confections fit for the stage – or a dinner party – D&G sent out unapologetically opulent jewel-encrusted bustier dresses and jeans inspired by the opera. Never one to be outdone, Alexander McQueen’s confident vision for the new season involved a romantic reinterpretation of classic prints and materials including houndstooth and tweed alongside theatrical sculpted, feathered headpieces. Haider Ackermann served up sultry, draped floor-length dresses, some with risqué thigh-high splits, and covetable leather jackets and knits in bold metallic and deep jewel tones. |
