Tom Ford’s CV looks pretty good. The Texan-born designer, who studied at New York’s Parson’s School of Design and began his working career at sportswear label Cathy Hardwick, really started to make waves at Perry Ellis working under Marc Jacobs. But he is of course best known for turning around the fortunes of Italian fashion house Gucci in the 1990s, restoring in it a kind of sexy 1970s glamour that the brand appeared to have lost. After a stint also designing for Yves Saint Laurent, he created the Tom Ford label that now takes in fragrance, sunglasses and luxurious menswear. Ford’s inimitably sexy design style seems to imbue everything he touches.
Mode de Vue is a Parisian boutique dedicated to the increasing crossover between eye-wear and fashion. Trained optician Mamou Michael spotted a gap in the market for a shop devoted to the most interesting designer fashion frames, both for traditional optical glasses and sunglasses - and Mode de Vue was born. Situated on the edge of Paris’ hip Marais district, the shop which opened in 2004, stocks a comprehensive collection of hard-to-find and lesser-known designer frames alongside those from the big guns of fashion.
