How to work your Winter Coat

For winter dressing a coat is the key item to construct your outfit around. This means thinking about how to tie your look together but staying warm whilst doing it. We have seen a trend for this with the girls on the street this week. Work your winter coat and show your style by matching your hat with a top, colour blocking your tights, teaming with workman boots and thinking long and hard about your accessories. There should be no limit to looking directional- even when it's snowing!

Headgear

Hats, ear-muffs, wraps, hoods and scarves are in abundance this season. Faux-fur Russian style hats are being favoured by the girl about town, along with beanies and berets. Bold colours and prints or classic and cashmere, it appears anything goes with this trend. Work it your own way but don't leave the house without this key accessory.

A Touch of Print, A Splash of Colour

Layering is not only a way to keep your look unique and interesting but in the current weather it's essential! A rising trend is to keep your look basic and add a touch of print or a splash of colour. Whether it's a bold scarf, a patterned cardigan or colouful socks on show between your turn ups and your deck shoes, anyone can work this trend. There is no reason not to stand out even in your black coat.

The Over Coat

We have seen extreme temperatures in the past few weeks but that hasn't put off the guys in our city looking good. Tailored over coats have been rife in the capital and have been worked in every way possible. Duffle buttons, military details and double breasted styles have all been seen whilst being kept classic in navy and brown. Working it with lace-ups and leather parcel bags gives a mod-look with relaxed chic.

Check it out

Surfacing in some incarnation each autumn/winter, plaids and checks – stretching from punk infused to heritage versions – keep coming back for more. Right now, jackets, shirts and scarves are the way to work the trend, or for something more avant-garde – trousers are the way to go.

Knit one, purl one

The autumn chill has set in, so time to invest in a cosy knit. We’ve spotted an abundance of exciting knitwear on cool boys about town, favouring bold colours and muted tones, graphic prints and the perennial trend for Fair Isle designs. Covering oversized and fitted shapes, the rule seems to be: anything goes.

The old razzle dazzle

From all over embellishment to intricate detailing, sequins are as prolific on the streets as they were on Autumn/Winter’s runways. This season we’re seeing sequins splashed across everything from blazers and dresses to jeans and accessories – there’s no excuse not to sparkle.

Get laced: autumn's lace up boots

A must for your wardrobe this autumn/winter is a pair of lace up ankle boots. Heeled and flat options are equally popular and currently are being worn with a bare leg (at least until the cold weather kicks in). Shabby-chic or polished patent? We say both!

Street Style: LFW wearing it well

BACK TO BLACK
Jet black was seemingly the order of the day at Somerset House this sunny Monday AM, but far from playing it safe, the fash-pack opted for black in a diversity of silhouettes and textures. From a mighty fine pair of sequinned harem pants to a shredded black leggings and crochet combo, black banished the boring and hijacked some high fashion looks. Particular points go to the revamped LBD – sporting the power shoulder AND tough studs, two of this season’s biggest trends.
