Kevin Buckle opened Avalanche in a small shop next to Edinburgh University selling new independent releases and second hand vinyl. Always wanting to work for himself, and with a love for music, he named the shop after the Leonard Cohen song Avalanche. After a successful beginning he moved to a larger shop in the same street, then opened another shop in the city centre in the 1990’s. In 2010, Avalanche moved to an even larger shop in Edinburgh’s famous arts hub – Grassmarket.
