New York Day 1: Preen, Charlotte Ronson, Jason Wu, Erin Wasson

Preen

New York Fashion Week kicked off today with shows including Preen, Jason Wu, Charlotte Ronson and Erin Wasson x RVCA starting the week with a bang. London's favourite designer couple, Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton of Preen, showed an early '90s inspired collection with their signature modern twist - one stand out panelled silver suede dress Bregazzi described backstage as "very cool, Star Wars C3PO". Charlotte Ronson sent out a cool, casual collection that literally had something for every fashion-loving gal - pieces that could work the day to night angle, be dressed up or down, and all stepping onto the catwalk to tunes mixed by her DJ sister Samantha Ronson. A definite highlight of the day was Erin Wasson x RVCA's collaborative collection shown at the Bryant Park tents at 9pm - it was as much rock show as fashion show and had a knock-out front row featuring none other than Bruce Willis and new wife Emma Heming (pretty much overshadowing all other celebs), Alexa Chung and Alex Turner and NY it-girl Corey Kennedy. The soundtrack was supplied live by bangin' Brooklyn noise band Gang Gang Dance whose tribal, hypnotic beats moved between raucous melodies to calypso - amazing.

New York Fashion Week kicks-off with Fashion's Big Night Out

US Vogue's Creative Director Grace Coddington signing copies of Vogue in Prada, Fifth Avenue, New York for fashion's Big Night Out.

Today was all about the "Fashion's Night Out" parties and events all over Manhattan - it seemed as though there wasn't a fashion label or boutique in the city that wasn't hosting a packed out free-booze do. Opening Ceremony threw a crazy street party 'Trunk show' bash that literally had endless people hovering outside the store's doors and desperately trying to get in. Sienna and Savannah Miller hosted at the SoHo boutique Intermix, Rodarte went uptown with a do at Barney's featuring a live performance by Justin Bond and Prada got rock'n'roll with The Rapture playing in-store. NY Fashion Week really kicks off tomorrow with Preen, Philip Lim's first mens line, Charlotte Ronson and Erin Wasson for RVCA all showing from midday until 9pm. It's going to be a very long day - thank god for obligatory fashion week champagne!
